Witchcraft/Paganism Curated News

Trigger Warning: some of these stories speak to several kinds of abuse. I am not responsible for the content. I share for educational purposes, and want you to be forewarned. Read the news at your own risk. Some of it is cool!

This Week’s Tarot: Wheel of Fortune

One thing to know about me- I ADORE Tarot art and artists. Ciro Marchetti has a unique style that is prevalent in all of his tarot decks. This card is no exception, and I believe it captures the spirit of this Tarot card.

Wheels have always had significance to humans. They symbolize freedom and the cyclical nature of life. We spin the wheel of chance to see what randomly might come up in our lives. We use wheels to transport us to places in a much quicker fashion than walking. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that this Wheel of Fortune card symbolizes all of those things, and more.

Note the numbers on the four corners. Did you see the Hebrew letter “bet” on the bottom left? Hebrew letters have numeric value to them, and this one is the number two. It represents duality, male and female, home, protection, security, and a universal “home,” in spirituality. All of these come into play with the Wheel of Fortune.

You could be riding high right now. If so, are you prepared enough for when you’ll be on the low-end of the wheel? If you are on the low-end, are you seasoned enough to realize that this too, shall pass?

Ask yourself if you’re trying too hard to control the spin. Have you “clogged up the wheel” with trying to carry too much or through an unhealthy perspective? What can you release that will allow the wheel to move in your favor?

As with any reading, your new knowledge can change an outcome. It’s worth exploring!

This Week’s Totem: Bull

Bulls have held a place of significance in human culture since before the beginning of recorded history. They appear in cave paintings estimated to be up to 17,000 years old. The mythic Bull of the Heavens plays a role in the ancient Sumerian Epic of Gilgamesh, dating as far back as 2150 BC. The importance of the bull is reflected in its appearance in the zodiac as Taurus, and its numerous appearances in mythology, where it is often associated with fertility. In Hinduism, a bull named Nandi, usually depicted seated, is worshipped as the vehicle of the god Shiva and depicted on many of the images of that deity. To the Celts, the bull was regarded as a symbol of fertility. They invoked this symbol when they wanted to enhance procreation among newly married couples. The bull stands for motivation in the Chinese tradition. The Chinese connect the bull symbol with strong will, perseverance, and strength.

The Bull of Wall Street statue sits in the financial district of New York city, as a symbol of financial optimism. ‘The Bull Run’ is a term used in the financial markets to signify an upsurge in market trends. The Bull Run works in contrast to the Bear Run, which shows when a market is spiraling downwards.

Bull as Your Totem

The Bull as a totem is a solar symbol of strength, masculinity, and sacrifice. To sacrifice means, “to make sacred.” Bulls have been sacrificed to various gods throughout the history of mankind. If you carry this totem, you tend to carry the “weight of the world” on your strong shoulders. You are able to withstand an onslaught and keep on going. You have stubborn tendencies which are both beneficial and detrimental to your well-being.

People tend to come to you for protection. You may have been the kid who protected those being bullied on the playground at school. You tend to stand up for what’s right.

You can also have a serious temper, when provoked.

Dreaming of Bulls

Bulls in our dreams are much like those of the totem itself. Bulls represent wild, untamed energy that can be very aggressive. Bulls can represent our deeper feelings that may have been dragged out by others reactions and provocations in the previous day. It can also mean that you’ve set up a goal and you’re feeling pretty confident about it.

Bull as a Messenger

If Bull has stomped into your life today, it’s time to take stock of your own belief in yourself. Have you given up on something important to you? Have you given up on yourself? Do you need some of bull’s stubborn strength to get you through? Call on Bull for help in standing your ground, being aggressive where it’s warranted, and in drawing upon wealth that lasts through generations. Bull is a great ally in times like these.

Bone Songs

We, in the northern hemisphere, are coming upon my favorite time of year- autumn. Summer is winding down, storms are flaring up as the “muchness” of the season bellows out its rebellion against the waning of its power. We’ll experience some “hot flashes,” as the earth prepares to sleep in our half, and awaken in the south. Many of us need the quieter time to regroup and reconnect. We cannot do it while the cacophony of summer assaults our senses. I find that I cannot take on new things to learn during that time. It’s a time of giving, not receiving.

Don’t get me wrong; there is nothing like the fecundity that summer brings. Our local farms are filled with the fruits of labor and partnership with the earth. The green leaves that cover the forest behind my home give me a sense of privacy that I do not have in the barren of winter. Our peach tree out back provided an absolute feast for our groundhog guardian that lives under the shed. I am grateful for all that has been given, and I am not trying to rush, but…

The temperatures are sliding, the crickets’ chirps are slowing, the farms are celebrating ‘harvest season,’ and there’s a feeling of excitement trying to well up within me. Soon, the windows will be open again, and I will breathe the fresh, welcome chill of the season I most love. She’ll arrive, with her thinning veil; and my ancestors will almost be visible through it. She’ll be cool to the touch, but warm with her wardrobe. We’ll connect in a way that only Witch can understand. I can’t wait for the dance to begin!
