Monday Magic Ringing in the Deep

New Year Greetings from The BoneSong Witch! It’s a magical time for us as society rings in 2022, and we shake off the trappings of 2021. For most of us, the past two years have been very stressful. We’re going into our third year of a global pandemic, with no real end in sight, and it’s wearing on us, on nearly every level. It’s hard to be hopeful in times like these. We hurt, regularly, and it isn’t just surface level. I’m here to tell you that we can use this time and emotion for our individual and collective benefit. This is where deep magic lies.

I’m sure many of you ancestors-in-training (think those of us over the age of 55) are already in on this little secret, but it’s time for us to share some of our hard-won knowledge that only comes with the experience of age. That adage, “you’ll understand when you’re older,” is so very true in this case. So, here it is. Hopefully, I can explain it well enough that it will be understood. Any fault in comprehension lies with me. So, here goes.

Magic can be accessed at any time. That’s not a secret in the Witching World. But, deep magic happens when we are willing to be wounded in our spirit and open ourselves to The Mystery. Perhaps you’ve noticed this in your life.

Have you ever used music to help you grieve when a lover or potential lover has broken your heart? Have you ever written a masterpiece poem or created amazing art because you were coming from that place of pain that cannot be expressed in simple terms? This is what I’m talking about. It’s about taking the cavernous torture and excavating it for treasure. This is spiritual alchemy, and mystics throughout the ages have been perfecting its secrets this entire time. The opposite can also ring true.

The extreme of emotion helps us to connect. When we feel overwhelming joy, sadness, ecstasy, agony, et al, we are tapping into something pure and wild, and we can find a way to ride it, but we will never tame it. It belongs solely to our most profound self. It’s the letting go that’s most difficult, in order to fall into that state where creativity lives. And, that, dear wildlings, is where power is cultivated- through creativity.

This is why I tell you to use the magic guides as guides, only. If the color of the day says, “red,” but you feel it’s more of an orange day, then go with it. Make it as brightly or darkly orange as you can. Take it to that extreme, if only in your heart. Fully, deeply experience this life. It’s shorter than you know. Go for the deep magic this year. Take the painful and the pleasurable and make them beautiful. You are Wild Witch, after all. This is your birthright.

I wish for you a beautiful year of creative alchemy!

Thank you so much for this . So much of what you have said has been ringing true for me . For me it is walking the path between light and dark and knowing that with out out or the other we cannot be truly whole . We need to accept both sides of ourselves and learn to work with both our sides .

      Hi Zabrina!

Thank you so much for your support and comments. While I’m not a big believer in light/dark dichotomies, I understand where you are coming from, and I believe that acceptance and celebration of ourselves is absolutely essential. Let me know how I can support you!

Thank you for your offer of help . Right now I am learning to except things I can’t change and excepting what I can . I am in a phase of self exploration. I am focusing on who I am to myself so that in the future I can help those I need to when I can . I just have to remember not to give to much of myself in the process . This year I am taking time for me . I am excited to see where it leads .
